Day 17 - shopping thoughts

Perhaps one way to get myself under control away from the duck s is to shop online for my food so that I am not tempted by the sweet stuff!
Sounds sensible after listening to Day 17 again!

Good to see you blogging again. It sounds like it is stressful for you at the moment.

I do the shopping online at the moment for all the things I need to bulkbuy and then the rest of the shopping I pick up from local butchers and greengrocers. I don't tend to see many cakes etc therefore when I am shopping.

I went through a phase last year where I wanted cakes etc so I carried on having deserts but where fruit was one of the main ingredients. Yoghurt with any fruit but especially passion fruit satisfied my cravings. Fruit salad with a few walnuts and drizzled with honey is also delicious. From time to time I would also have lots of berries with a little creme fraiche and a little meringue crumbled on top. I enjoy buckwheat pancakes with honey and berries for breakfast every now and again. I found that after a while I switched to just wanting the fruit.

The other thing that helps me find my balance with what I eat is through exercising. When I exercise regularly, I tend to have less urge to snack on unhealthy foods. Partly because I know that I need healthy foods to fuel me. And partly because the exercise is an outlet for my frustration and stress. I use to do boxing once a week and my trainer said she could tell when I was having a bad week!

You will get there in your own way. I have reached a point where I enjoy going out for cake and coffee from time to time. But I can't drink more than a small cup of coffee and on the last 3 occasions I have had cake, I have shared a piece. And I only have good quality homemade cake in tearooms now - I am not tempted by the look of mass produced cakes. But it's taken me a while to get there....

Baby steps earthmother. And I really hope you enjoy your holiday.

I eat cakes from tearooms too! With good company, I think that is what my craving signals, good comany where we all take time out from the business of everyday life and that is why I like the experience!

I too like fruit and tend to eat berries, but because of my IBS which can be aggraveted by some fruits I am careful with which ones I eat!

I cannot tolerate cows milk, though if out I have it n tea or if I have a mocha it is usually with soya milk.

At the moment my desire to concentrate solely on foods that positive for my body just seems to have waned like tooo much concntration on it makes me fed up, though clearly I am still not in a good place in some ways, its like some great junction in my life and which way do I go when there is less of it left?

Ayesha's Gravatar I think tearooms have comforting associations - there is a reason why Starbucks sells huge vats of coffee out of mugs.

Sometimes we can overfocus on wanting to get something right and then I think the programme isn't enjoyable and it becomes a huge sticking block. I had a dark moment the other day where I thought that I would have expected to have been more focused on this programme whilst I was off work over the last 8 weeks. I felt like I hadn't done as well as I should have because I still eat chocolate. What I was ignoring was everything I do well. So maybe that's where you should start - what are you doing well - drinking water? Eating lots of vegetables? Regular walks? What other tools can you work on - it's amazing how the tools that seem impossible can slot into place without much effort when we are not actually thinking about them so much

Can you eat goats milks/yoghurt (although I admit I hate the stuff). Its interesting though as I also have mild IBS which is triggered by TOTM. I know what my foods to avoid are - too much milk, too much fatty food, too much fruit (at TOTM); cream. So instinctively I cut those foods out when I need to. I can obviously listen to my body about cutting out foods so that I don't aggravate my IBS but when it comes to cutting out foods I have a mental association of comfort with, I find it much harder....

earthmother's Gravatar Yes
I do the same with my ibs
I drink goats milk in tea and various stuff, I have soya milk with coffee and if I have cereal.

One problem we have is that the boys and I drink and use goats milk - my husband hates anything goatie! It definitely improves their mucus problems I have to say, so a firm favourite with them.

He drinks lactofree milk, which he puts in drinks for me at the moment - which I do not think is helping tbh!
He finds soya settles heavily on his stomach;
Soooooo we buy goats milk soya milk lactofree and occasional cows milk if other people visit - not straightforward at all!
That is just the milk!
I think life can just be so complicated that you just want to stop and do nothing and coast and take time out!

Yes I need to concentrate on transferring my cravings to a healthier choice, not stop desserts, just healthier ones, like you did and begin to rein myself back in!

Thanks so much for your thoughts Ayesha
